Draw and communicate using just your eyes using Eye writer

I came across the eyewriter website today while surfing for processing and interactive concepts at 2010.futureeverything.org and thought that the technology, use and application was quite inspiring really given the DIY approach to technology and what these guys have managed to put together.

It must be so frustrating for anyone suffering from ALS and communicating.

Members of Free Art and Technology (FAT), OpenFrameworks, the Graffiti Research Lab, and The Ebeling Group communities have teamed-up with a legendary LA graffiti writer, publisher and activist, named TEMPTONE. Tempt1 was diagnosed with ALS in 2003, a disease which has left him almost completely physically paralyzed… except for his eyes. This international team is working together to create a low-cost, open source eye-tracking system that will allow ALS patients to draw using just their eyes. The long-term goal is to create a professional/social network of software developers, hardware hackers, urban projection artists and ALS patients from around the world who are using local materials and open source research to creatively connect and make eye art.

Here is the Video from the Open Frameworks site which is what Eye Writer is based on and uses.

I am no C++ developer myself and would always opt for processing.org for this stuff.

@FiatMio crowd sourcing campaign to build new concept car

Here is a great idea where a Fiat campaign run by Brazilian agency Agencia Click Isobar has used crowd-sourcing and social to get people to contribute ideas and participate to the design of a new Fiat concept car. This has seen over 10,000 people over 160 countries enter in their ideas. All together an awesome idea that opens up engagement and interaction with the communities.

You can read more on the site here and even submit your own idea!!

Here is the video ...its in Brazilian though I am afraid.

Supermarkets of the future introducing the "Nano Supermarket"

Nanotechnology is an important emerging technology of our time – it radically intervenes with our sense of what is natural – yet most people are still relatively unaware of its consequences. The NANO Supermarket presents speculative nanotech products that may hit the shelves within the next ten years: medicinal candy, interactive wall paint, a wine which taste can be altered with microwaves, a twitter implant, invisible security spray.

Our products are both innovative and useful as well as uncanny and disturbing. They were envisioned as scenarios for potential nano futures, that help us decide what nano future we want.

The Next Nature NANO Supermarket is a mobile supermarket that presents speculative nanotech products that may hit the shelves within the next ten years.

Our products are both innovative and useful as well as uncanny and disturbing. They were envisioned as scenarios for potential nano futures, that help us decide what nano future we want.
